Made from a blend of wood fibres and concrete, WoodStone nest boxes protect the occupants from attacks from their natural predators such as woodpeckers, cats and squirrels. Its insulating properties give the nest box a steadier internal temperature in comparison to ordinary wooden boxes, meaning young birds have a greater chance of surviving the breeding season. These open nest boxes will be used by Robins and Wrens (if well hidden), Pied and Grey Wagtails, Spotted Flycatchers, Blackbirds, and Song Thrushes.

These nest boxes are specially designed to help park, woodland, and garden birds, including common birds such as Great Tits, Blue Tits, and Robins; declining red-listed species such as Starlings and House Sparrows; and for use as specialist boxes for species such as Woodpeckers and Treecreepers.
Many of the nest boxes in this range use a material called WoodStone®, which is a combination of concrete and FSC certified wood. Using WoodStone® means the nest boxes are attractive and durable while providing greater insulation than traditional wooden nest boxes.
This aids the stabilisation of the temperature inside the box, protecting it from external daily fluctuations; a clear advantage for nestlings, incubating birds, and birds that use nest boxes as winter roosting sites.
WoodStone® nest boxes are also breathable, preventing condensation issues while still protecting any occupants from rain and wind. Birds may be able to start nesting earlier in boxes made of this material, with more young fledging successfully. Their sturdy construction is also a deterrent to nest box predators such as woodpeckers and grey squirrels.
