This nest box is made from a combination of concrete and wood fibres, protecting the occupants from against attacks by predators such as woodpeckers, cats, and squirrels. Its construction material and design allow for a more consistent internal temperature than an ordinary wooden box, making it ideal for sparrows during the breeding season, improving the survival rate of fledglings. As House Sparrows have a preference for nesting in clusters or colonies, the nest box has been designed with two chambers, allowing them to breed in close proximity to each other.

These nest boxes are specially designed to help park, woodland, and garden birds, including common birds such as Great Tits, Blue Tits, and Robins; declining red-listed species such as Starlings and House Sparrows; and for use as specialist boxes for species such as Woodpeckers and Treecreepers.

Many of the nest boxes in this range use a material called WoodStone®, which is a combination of concrete and FSC certified wood. Using WoodStone® means the nest boxes are attractive and durable while providing greater insulation than traditional wooden nest boxes.

This aids the stabilisation of the temperature inside the box, protecting it from external daily fluctuations; a clear advantage for nestlings, incubating birds, and birds that use nest boxes as winter roosting sites.

WoodStone® nest boxes are also breathable, preventing condensation issues while still protecting any occupants from rain and wind. Birds may be able to start nesting earlier in boxes made of this material, with more young fledging successfully. Their sturdy construction is also a deterrent to nest box predators such as woodpeckers and grey squirrels.
