This box has been designed in conjunction with wildlife experts and has been created to mimic a hollow tree, the natural roosting site for bats. The box has four internal compartments for roosting, separated from each other by means of wooden inserts.
The box offers good thermal insulation and maintains a steady internal temperature. Its coarse surface makes sure bats have enough grip to access the box. The material used to manufacture the box helps protect occupants from natural and other predators, while its black exterior absorbs heat from the sun and heats the inside of the box.
Bat species likely to use the box include the Common noctule, Daubenton’s Bat, Common Dwarf Bat, Brown Long Eared Bat, Nathusius’s Pipistrelle, Soprano Pipistrelle, Lesser Noctule, Brandt’s Bat, Whiskered Bat, and Pond Bat.
